Membership class workbook printing, from newcomers to next steps

If your church runs a newcomers or membership class every month or quarter, the workbook should be the easy part. Our membership class workbook printing starts at 10 copies: approve a proof once, then reorder the same edition for each class.

Order per class or in batches

Order per class if the material changes often, and in batches if it stays the same for a season.

Batches cost less per copy but lock in the content for longer. A class of 12 that meets four times a year uses about 50 workbooks. One batch of 50 costs less per copy than four orders of 15, and you pay postage once. If new staff or service times are coming, order per class instead.

Any quantity from 10 to 100 is priced in proportion between tiers, and one price covers any page count within a format. The price calculator adds postage, at cost, for your church's ZIP code. Compare both coil books on the workbooks page, or see both booklet sizes.

What goes in a class workbook

Most membership and next-steps workbooks follow the class: one section per session, with fill-in blanks and a response page.

SectionWhat it holds
WelcomeA letter from the pastor and the class schedule
Our story and beliefsThe church's history and statement of faith, with fill-in blanks
Next stepsBaptism, groups, serving teams and giving
Gifts and interestsA survey members fill in during class
Response pageThe step each person will take, and who to contact
ContactsStaff names, service times and the office number

Put details that change often, such as staff names and service times, on one page near the back. Then a change means one new page, not a new layout. Leave fill-in blanks wide enough for handwriting, and number every page.

A coil workbook lies flat on the table for writing. A booklet costs less and weighs less.

What to send

Send one PDF of single pages in reading order, not spreads.

  • Coil workbook: the front cover on page 1, then up to 48 interior pages. Leave the back cover out; it is blank 80 lb cover stock.
  • Booklet: exactly 8, 12 or 16 pages, counting the front and back covers.
  • Page size: 8.75 x 11.25 in when color runs to the edge, or 5.75 x 8.75 in for the small booklet. Otherwise use the finished size.
  • Margins: keep text 0.25 in inside the trim, and keep 0.5 in clear on the coil edge.
  • Fonts and photos: embed your fonts, and place photos at 300 ppi at their printed size.

Start from Coil workbook template, 8.5 x 11 in (Word) (DOCX), which mirrors the margins for the coil edge and has styles for writing lines. For a booklet, use Booklet template, 5.5 x 8.5 in (Word) (DOCX) or Booklet template, 8.5 x 11 in (Word) (DOCX). Every template is on the free templates page.

Keep every class on the current edition

Each approved file is saved as a dated edition. When the class changes, upload the new file and approve a new proof; reorders then use the new edition.

Before each reorder, you confirm the saved file is still current. Print the edition date in the footer, such as "January 2027", so leaders can spot an old copy on the shelf.

Plan reorders before each class

Plan each reorder three to four weeks before the next class meets.

Count back from the class date

Work back from the first session: transit, then production, then the proof.

  1. Your file. Confirm the saved edition is still current, or upload a revised file.
  2. Proof. A revised file gets a digital proof the same business day we receive a complete file. Approve it, or ask for one round of changes.
  3. Production. 1 to 3 business days after approval and payment.
  4. Transit. USPS Ground Advantage to the church. USPS lists 2 to 5 business days for this service.

Nothing prints until you approve. A digital proof confirms content and layout, not exact color.

Shipping to the church

We ship each order to one address, such as the church office. Name the person who receives packages. Large orders may arrive in more than one box, each with its own tracking number. Running the class at two campuses? Place one order per campus.
