How to fill in the template
- Open the file in Word. It also opens in Google Docs, though photo placement can shift slightly.
- Replace the text. Click any sample line and type over it. Keep names and dates at least 0.25 in from the edges.
- Add photos. Click a shaded photo box, then Insert > Pictures. Use the largest original file you have. Scanned prints look best scanned at 600 dpi.
- Remove what you don't need. Delete a section, or swap Psalm 23 for a favorite poem, a prayer or song lyrics you have the right to print.
- Save as PDF. File > Save As > PDF. Check every page before you print or order.
Keep the page count at 8. A folded booklet uses sheets of 4 pages, so 8, 12 or 16 pages work; other counts leave blank pages.
Printing it yourself or with us
At home, print the PDF double-sided on letter paper with your printer's booklet setting, then fold and staple. That works for a small service.
For a larger service, we print the same file as a stapled, full-color booklet on 70 lb paper and ship it anywhere in the lower 48 states.
| Copies | Small booklet, 5.5 x 8.5 |
|---|---|
| 50 | $149 ($2.98 each) |
| 100 | $229 ($2.29 each) |
| 250 | $449 ($1.80 each) |
The price is the same for 8, 12 or 16 pages. You get a digital proof the same business day we receive your file, and production takes 1 to 3 business days after you approve. Plan for ground shipping on top; see funeral program printing for timing.
Writing tips
- Obituary: lead with the name, age, birthplace and date of passing. Then their story, their family and the service details.
- Order of service: confirm it with the officiant or funeral home before you print.
- Names: check the spelling of every name twice. A proof is the last chance to catch them.
- Photos: a mix of eras, from childhood to recent, tells the life story best.
